Trimble recently announced the release of the Geocache Navigator software application for the Blackberry. Now, by using Geocache Navigator, Blackberry users will be able to join in on the world-wide fun of Geocaching!

GeocacheNavigator is presently the only application that brings Geocaching capabilities to the mobile phone market and provides real time access to Geocaching.com

Developed by Trimble, a world leader in GPS technologies and a supporter of the international Cache In Trash Out Day, in partnership with Geocaching.com, Geocache Navigator lets you use your Blackberry to connect to the world’s largest cache database, select a Geocache to look for, view the Geocache location on an aerial, topographic or street map, home in on the cache and also mark your Geocaches as lost or found.

Here’s a great way to keep in touch with your fellow Geocachers – The Geo-Post Office! This type of cache has been around since the spring of 2006 and the idea is to move postcards between Geo-Post Offices until they reach their destination. It sounds like a cool, fun way to exchange postcards between you and your Geocaching friends.

Geo-Post Office caches are specifically placed with the purpose to hold postcards. Each postcard is to have a short message and a forwarding address on it. The address is to include the name of the Geocacher that you are trying to send the postcard to, their home city, and a destination cache. Here’s an example:

“Trying to look inconspicuous… lurking around the downtown core… it’s getting closer… closer… closer… it’s time!

We converge on the designated spot at the designated time. A mad dash to fill out the log sheets. Lots of laughter in the air. Meet and greet friends old and new. Dozens of cameras taking photos. Local TV station recording the event. A candy toss, children scrambling for the sweet treats. Prize winners announced. Another scramble for the group photo. More laughter. Final time is announced and there we were – gone.”

We just got back home from the local World Wide Flash Mob Event and we don’t believe we had so much fun in such a short period of time. It was hard to wipe the grin from our faces!

It just keeps getting better!

We woke up this morning with a feeling of grave agitation and high anxiety. Our hands were shaking, our eyes were watery and we had a driving desire to go outside. After a few minutes of searching our symptoms on the Internet we quickly found that we were suffering from “Obsessive Compulsive Cache Craving Syndrome” or OCCCS. There is no question, we are addicted to Geocaching!

You know that you are addicted to Geocaching when:

… a colleague brings out their Tupperware lunch box and you automatically reach for your pen to sign the log book.

… you can’t walk down a path without thinking, “Hmmm, that’ll be a good place for a cache!”.

… you type in your home co-ords and not the phone number.

… your idea of decorating the Christmas tree is to conceal all the presents at its foot, beneath a camo covering of tinsel.

… your idea of gift-giving is to hide the gifts in the garden with co-ords and a clue.

… you are watching TV and think “That’s a beautiful place, I wonder where the nearest cache is?’”
