08/17/08 – This Week In Geocaching

Posted in In The News on Aug 17, 2008

Let’s start this week’s news off with an interesting article on Groundspeak that gives a little more background on the “social experiment turned into a small phenomenon” that we call Geocaching. Read more here.

There were more Geocachers in the news this past week. This time it’s Chuck and Karen Short (aka BlackJeep1989) from Southern Illinois. Read more about Chuck and Karen here.

We link to Tourism related websites in the Geocaching Online Directory which lists sites that offer both Geocaching and tourism for a particular area. This week we came across a slightly different offering. This one promotes modern art! ArtQuest offers the
coordinates of eleven original art sculptures installed throughout the Upper Catskills at eleven different family attractions. Here’s the article here.

Friends of the Bruce Grey Trail Network has partnered with the Grey Bruce Partners in Health, the Grey Bruce Health Unit and the Bruce and Grey County Library systems to offer free use of GPSr’s in an attempt to get families off the coach and into the outdoors. More here.

And finally, do you ever wonder why there’s recognition given for Geocaching finds and not for hides? Well, if you do you are not alone! Check out Hedge’s Ramblinz for his take on this.

These were a few interesting Geocaching related news articles that we came across this week that we wanted to share.

Keep on cachin’!

That ArtQuest is in my neck of the woods. I think I’m going to plot that stuff during my travels and see if I can get it done. They had the coords a bit off at first, but I know they were looking to fix ‘em.
