Here we are again for another episode of Geocaching in the news! This time we visit some Geocachers, a tribute to war brides, a Geocaching wedding proposal, a bomb scare and more! Read on:

Cachers in the news this week include Howard Dack, Kevin DeVizia and John Neale who cache in and around Lehigh Valley and northwestern New Jersey. You can read more here.

Gayle Minkler, Heide Minkler and Julie Parker from Texarkana, Arkansas are mention in this short article here.

There’s information on an exhibit titled “GPS Adventures” at the Rochester Museum and Science Center in New York here. This is an interactive exhibit that explores Geocaching! There’s also another related article here.

Here’s a different twist to a Travel Bug mission. This one is a tribute to war brides and was created by the son of one of them! Check out this heart-warming story here.

A recent bomb scare in Colorado Springs, Colorado resulted in three caches being blown to pieces, or rather ‘rendered safe’. You can read more here.

There were also some updates made to the GC.com website this past week. Unfortunately at the time of writing the link to the update page is broken. Some of the highlights include a GPS rating system and a ‘Send to GPS’ for DeLorme units.

And keeping with the season (Valentine’s Day) here’s a cute story about a cachers Kerry Kennedy and her boyfriend Adrian Arya whos proposal didn’t go exactly as planned but worked out in the end. Read more here.

Still in 1st place, and still on the move, is TripCyclone’s Easy Flyer with 8007.1 miles, in 2nd place is Gunny’s Electric Bug with 6517.7 miles, moving into 3rd place is Kiss My Cache’s Peace Luv and Travel Bugs with 2457.7, in 4th is Geocat’s Racer with 669.4 miles, in 5th place is Hick’s World with 505.5 miles, in 6th place and still on the move is HeadHardHat’s Just A Nut with 257 miles, in 7th place is EMC’s Chocolate Chip Cookie with 159.8 miles, in 8th place is PJ’s Champion Quilt with 149.7 miles and still in 9th place is our very own GoGo T.
Claire Coco and Jeff Sibley are mentioned in a recent article in Louisiana’s The Advocate. Coco spent thent past week hiding caches for an upcoming ‘Swamp Treasure Hunt’.
Marcy Davidson from Twain Harte, California writes an adveturous tale of Geocaching with her husband, Gary where, instead of a cache, they found a snake! You can read more here.

Bill Primrose, Jerry Edmunson and John Boettiger from Brazoria County, Texas are featured in this article here.

Now here’s a great addition to just looking for caches on your next outing. Between Alton and Harding, Illinois you can look for eagles too! How cool! Read more about this great opportunity here.

And finally, in the HooHaa GeoChallenge Race all the competitors drop back a spot as TripCyclone’s Easy Flyer jumped to 1st place with 8007.1 miles after returning from a short vacation in Hawaii. (Psssst… and it looks like it’s off again!)

And that’s the way we saw this week, or so, in Geocaching! Seriously, these were a few interesting Geocaching related news articles that we came across this week that we wanted to share.

Sally Davis, president of the Middle Tennessee Geocachers Club is mentioned in this great article about more city and town locations that are offering Geocaching incentives to visit. You can read more here.

The Waynesboro, Pennsylvania police are still looking for the Geocacher who left the ‘suspicious device’ that we told you about last week. You’ll find the continuing story here.

A mysterious item stashed in the base of a light pole in Urbana, Ohio caused the Wright-Patterson Bomb Squad to be called in. On investigation it proved to be a cache. More here.

The city of Aberdeen joins the Maryland state trail that continues to gain momentum as more cities and towns join in. A short mention is made here.

And speaking of the Maryland state trail, the official launch is this coming Thursday, New Year’s Day. The Maryland Municipal League Geocache Trail includes 78 towns and cities across the state! For more info about this great project please go here.

A big WOW! Is all we can say for the latest update to the HooHaa GeoChallenge Race. Gunny’s Electric Bug has taken a big leap to 1st place with 6517.7 miles! TripCyclone drops to 2nd with 3848.3 miles, in 3rd place is the Geocats Racer with 669.4 miles, in 4th is Just A Nut with 256.9 miles, in 5th is EMC’s Cookie with 139.2 miles, in 6th is the Champion Quilt with 123.2 miles, in 7th is GoGo T. Urtle with 38.9 miles, followed close in 8th place by Peace, Luv and TB’s with 31. 1 miles, and in 9th is the yet to be placed Hick’s World.

Btw – You can keep updated on the race positions at anytime by visiting GeoCache: I’m NOT Obsessed… Right? and scrolling down the right-hand menu.

And that’s the way we saw this week, or so, in Geocaching! Seriously, these were a few interesting Geocaching related news articles that we came across this week that we wanted to share.
